SNORKELING WETSUIT, DOES THIS FIT? - VIDEO & TRANSCRIPT

VIDEO - SNORKELING WETSUITS, DOES THIS FIT?
Wetsuits are worn in a number of water related sports and activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, jet skiing, water skiing and even swimming. The human body loses body heat 20 to 25 times faster in water than it does in an air environment. A wetsuit will help to slow down that heat loss which allows more in-water fun. This video will help the snorkeler to recognize how a snorkel wetsuit should fit in order to work efficiently.

SNORKELING WETSUIT, DOES THIS FIT? - VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:
In order for a snorkeling wetsuit to work efficiently, it has to fit you. The way that a snorkeling wetsuit does work is you get a thin layer of water in between the suit and yourself and your body heats up that thin layer of water. Without the snorkeling wetsuit, the heat that your body produces is going to leach out into the water, surrounding you, and it's going to lower your body temperature. The way that a snorkeling wetsuit works is it slows down that heat loss. If the wetsuit does not fit you, it's going to totally take away from that.

To check to see if a wetsuit fits you, check in the armpit area. If you have space in the armpit area then cold water's going to hit there first, be pumped through the suit and be replaced with more cold water. Another area of concern is the back. If you have a lot of space like this, the snorkeling wetsuit is considered not fitting because water's going to go down the neck area, into the back, and it's going to be pumped through the suit and replaced with, again, with more cold water. The neck area is also very important because this is where the water's going to enter. If you have a lot of space here then it's going to detract from the suit's purpose as well. The crotch area is another major part of concern. If the crotch area is too low, you're going to have cold water hitting there, which is very uncomfortable. And that's it on snorkeling wetsuits, thank you very much.
