U.S. DIVERS PARADISE DRY SNORKEL VS. U.S. DIVERS ISLAND DRY SNORKEL - VIDEO TRANSCRIPT
Cathy: Okay.
Roy: Do you want me to go in and come up?
Cathy: No, that's all right. Go ahead and start.
Cathy: Hi Roy. How was your snorkel?
Roy: Actually, this time I used the Paradise Dry Snorkel by U.S. Divers and it looks a lot like the Island Dry Snorkel here.
Cathy: Yes.
Roy: The U.S. Divers Paradise Dry Snorkel, which is on my right, basically is a second generation to this one.
Cathy: Of the Island Dry Snorkel?
Roy: Of the Island Dry Snorkel. I really appreciated the fact of the breathability --
Cathy: Can you put one down?
Roy: -- breathability on the Paradise Dry Snorkel over the Island Dry. This sealed extremely well up here. If you notice, right in this area here, it seals against the silicone.
Cathy: Right.
Roy: So basically when you go underneath the water, either head first or feet first, this shuts off.
Cathy: Here, let me take a -- stay there. Let me take a closer look. Okay, what do you got?
Roy: What you have is you have a little bit of silicone in here.
Cathy: Right, we can see that.
Roy: Which is soft seal, and when you go underneath the water, either feet first or head first, this goes up against it and seals it --
Cathy: Right.
Roy: -- which makes it a dry snorkel. Now I tried this going underneath the water and coming up, just straight up, and this dropped away and there was no water on the inside of the snorkel. I tried this coming up upside down, so when you look up, reach up and go up, and basically flipping your head forward again, this falls away, opens up and it was probably one of the dryer snorkels that I've had. Now again, it does have the purge valve on the bottom like most of the snorkels do because when the snorkel is out of your mouth, it will fill up with water. Breathability? Excellent. Excellent breathability on the U.S. Divers Paradise Dry Snorkel. Did you have any comments you wanted on it?
Cathy: Yes. Probably because of the price point, the Paradise Dry Snorkel is my favorite. Between that and the Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkel, which is the Cadillac of them all, and Roy's going to point out right now a few seconds of what's so popular with the Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkel. But between the U.S. Divers Paradise Dry Snorkel and the Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkel, depending on the money you want to spend, those two are my favorite dry snorkels. And, but I do want to point out with the Paradise Dry Snorkel, because of the price point, do notice that it does have a silicone mouthpiece but it is not replaceable.
Roy: Right.
Cathy: So if someone bites through those tabs, you do have to buy a new snorkel, $20. Roy, tell us about the Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkel, which is considered the Cadillac of the dry snorkels in the industry.
Roy: This has made the trade magazines for years. I love the sleek design on it. It doesn't fight the water when you go in through it. Replaceable mouthpiece. I have a tendency to chew on things so I'd rather buy another mouthpiece than have to buy another snorkel. The tube is a flexible tube. It's not -- the tube is also silicone.
Cathy: Right.
Roy: And this isn't silicone in here.
Cathy: You mean on the U.S. Divers Paradise Dry Snorkel, it's not silicone, correct. And that's where they used cheaper materials to make the price point cheaper.
Roy: Right. Now the seal on this one (Oceanic Ultra Dry Snorkel) is more of a ballast seal so when you go underneath the water head first, feet first, it shuts off and seals up against the snorkel very nicely. I've used this one a lot and I -- it is the Cadillac of snorkels. It's easy to put on the mask strap as far as adjusting it to the right height up here, getting it away from your face. It's beautiful on the design. Also, you can separate these two pieces.
Cathy: Right. What do they call it?
Roy: It's basically a quick-release.
Cathy: Quick-release.
Roy: So can actually leave half of it on your mask -- mask strap itself and there's a video on there.
Cathy: Right. We do have a video on how to use that.
Roy: I just don't want to accidentally drop it --
Cathy: On SnorkelingOnline.com we do have a video.
Roy: Yes we do. This one is probably my favorite.
Cathy: And Roy, it does have an oversized purge, is that what they call it?
Roy: Yes, well it's -- the reservoir is still a large reservoir down here so it's going to take a hefty draw and inhale to bring any droplets of water in there up into your mouth, if there was some in there. It does have an overly large purge valve area too.
Cathy: Correct.
Roy: It clears very nicely.
Cathy: Now another thing I want you to point out is when it was in your mouth, because it's silicone, but because of the angle of the mouthpiece, you do not get jaw fatigue.
Roy: If you look right here --
Cathy: Right, hold it. Let's get -- okay.
Roy: If you see right there --
Cathy: Yes.
Roy: Notice how it's angled more towards the mouth so it's a more natural position. You're not fighting to adjust the snorkel.
Cathy: Correct.
Roy: And it's more ergonomically designed, so to speak.
Cathy: Right.
Roy: So it fits with the human functions, so when it is in your mouth, it is angled right there.
Cathy: Right, right. All right, well thank you very much Roy. You've got a couple more snorkels to give us a review on, a couple more reviews on dry snorkels and we'll go to our part three, our final part three, on dry snorkels. Thanks Roy.
