SNORKELING TIPS FOR EXITING THE WATER FROM LAND
In snorkeling, as much as we would love to stay in the water forever, we have to get out eventually. And in this article we will show you, well explain to you how to get out of the water from the land (versus the boat).
Exiting the Water From The Land
Shore exits can include exiting onto a beach, exiting via a ladder onto a dock or a dep water exit onto a low platform.
Beach exits are the most common exits. Snorkel in as close to shore as possible findind a sandy area shallow enough to kneel in comfortably. When you are kneeling, remove your fins. If there is wave action, wait for a wave to pass before attempting to remove fins, stand up and walk out of the water.
If your shore exit is using a ladder, maintain firm contact with the ladder when removing your fins. The ladder rungs below the surface of the water may be slippery. If you are using strap fins, you may put your hands through the straps so that they hang freely from each wrist as you carefully climb the ladder. Those wearing full foot fins should either hand the fins up to someone on the platform or place them on the pltaform when they have climbed far enough up the ladder to safely do so.
If you are exiting onto a low platform from water too deep to stand (not the most graceful exit), it is probably best to start kicking more forcibly as you approach the platform with your arms extended in front of you. When your hands are able to make contact with the top of the platform continue kicking until you can get most of your torso onto the platform. You are on your own from there. This exit does require decent upper body strength.
