Snorkeling: The Ultimate Family Sport
Believe it or not Snorkeling is one of the few sports out there that can honestly be called a family sport. With the increased demands of society nowadays, quality time spent as a family is becoming something found in history books. Family communication has been reduced to leaving notes to one another, messages on cell phones and emails to one another. Families are rarely even finding the time to sit down and share a meal together. We already know that lack of family time is not a good thing. Psychologists, psychiatrists and family counselors are always advising people to spend quality time together as a complete family but because of diverse individual interests of each family member, it is difficult to find a family oriented activity that everyone will enjoy. Game nights are good but good luck trying to find a game that everyone likes to play. A family vacation is a good choice but even then, everyone will have a different idea of what to do while on vacation. I am not trying to say that taking the family snorkeling is the ultimate answer to getting them together but try throwing it out there. Call your spouse, leave a note in junior’s lunch box, text message your daughter’s cell phone. Leave the simple message “Do you want to go snorkeling?”. You may be surprised on how fast you get replies from all of them.
Snorkeling will expose your family to a whole new world. With seventy-two percent of this planet covered with water, it is surprising to know that we know more about outer space than we do about our world underwater. Snorkeling is an excellent way to explore it. It is one of the few sports that does not involve competition or seeing who is smarter, faster, stronger, older, younger or even who has a better memory. It is an active “spectator” sport which doesn’t involve commercials or couches. It exercises the mind and body without the mind or body realizing that they are being excerised. The scenery is forever changing. You are suspended weightless with a birds-eye view of a world which is as awe-inspiring as it is serene. If this sounds inviting to you, why not invite your family to share in it? You might find that snorkeling is the ultimate family sport.
