Snorkeling equipment requires a little care and nurturing both prior to and following each and every snorkeling adventure. Much of it is based on what is considered common sense to seasoned snorkelers but bears repeating none-the-less. Regardless of the environment being snorkeled all equipment used needs to be rinsed in clean fresh tap water and dried following use. The reason for the rinsing in fresh water is that as saltwater evaporates it will leave a salt residue that will get into places where it will start causing problems. Salt crystals when magnified have pointy, sharp edges which can start cutting into material. Snorkeling in fresh water environments can also leave a dirt residue when the fresh water evaporates which can build up on equipment.
