Snorkel in Little Corn Island

by Cathy on August 30, 2010

It is no secret that I love to travel and I am intrigued with destinations that I have not had the opportunity to visit. Little Corn Island in Nicaragua has been in the travel news as well as in The Wall Street Journal. Reporter Steve Stecklow for The Wall Street Journal had the opportunity to visit the island and he wrote about his views on what to do, where to stay and eat.

Little Corn Island, well is an island off of the Central America country, Nicaragua. The island consists of a population of 1200 and the economy is based on fishing and tourism.

The Corn Islands is surrounded by the barrier reef system which is great for snorkeling and scuba diving. The snorkeler can expect to see a large variety of coral, tropical fish, turtles and even larger fish. Here is a refreshing video from an adorable little boy who takes us on a snorkeling  adventure.

If you are looking for a laid back, no frills snorkeling destination, Little Corn Island is the place to go. Where can you stay in a comfortable room while on vacation for only $20.00-$40.00 a night? Check out the Casa Iguana and Hotel Los Delfines.

Since we all love to read blogs ~ lol ~ here is a fun blog that Matt & Casey wrote on their adventure and personal experience to the Corn Islands.

Little Corn Island is definately on my list to go!

My gosh, I have seen it all. If you are heading to Australia, check out the “Cage of Death” with the stars of “Crocodile Dundee”. In Darwin, the company lowers a clear enclosure with 2 snorkelers in it and release the crocodile, Burt into the water. Burt is 15 feet long and one of 4 crocs who participate. How much does it cost? $120.00AUD / $112.00USD. Here is a video that we found on YOUTUBE.

I have not had the opportunity to snorkel in France, yet, BUT I dont think I would keep it together, if I ran across this… snorkelers, check out this picture!

U.K.'s Daily Mail

We found an article in the Yahoo News Blog, about a fisherman, Raphael Biagini who reeled in a 30 pound koi carp in France where the fish are popular.

The article told us that the largest carp on record is 88 pounds and was caught in the United Kingdom.

With summer here, the temperatures can get quite high… it is great time to cool off. Being in Chicago, we have a lot of swimming pools but I am more interested in the lakes or quarries where the fishies are.

When we think snorkeling in Florida, we think oceans or Gulf of Mexico, but did you ever think quarries? The Floridians call them Springs and the State of Florida has many State Parks that allow snorkeling. Now dont forget your snorkel mask, snorkel and snorkeling fins and now check out the snorkeling spots.
